Ideally about a year before you finish school. Many companies advertise their positions early – those who look ahead have the full selection. You're a bit later? That's fine too. Less than you think. For most training occupations, no specific school-leaving qualification is required – companies decide for themselves who they hire. Many focus more on you than on your report card: interest in the job, reliability and enthusiasm for learning often count more than your maths grade. A work placement helps in two ways: you test out the job, and the company gets to know you.
Yes, from the first month. If you start in 2026, you'll get at least 724 euros a month – that's fixed by law. Your salary increases with every year of your apprenticeship, and many companies pay significantly more than the minimum. Driving licence, your first own flat or simply saving: you decide what happens with your money.
